James L. "Jim" MacKay

November 19, 1944 - January 16, 2017

Biography--

James L. “Jim” MacKay, 72, of Janesville, Iowa, died Monday, January 16, 2017, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

He was born November 19, 1944 in St. Croix, The U.S. Virgin Islands, the son of Murdo and Myrtle (Wildhagen) MacKay. Jim married Pam Altenhein on June 6, 1984 at Janesville United Methodist Church. He graduated from Bayview High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and received a degree in Drafting from Milwaukee Area Technical College.

Jim earned a BA degree in Industry and a BA degree in Business from the University of Northern Iowa. He worked at John Deere & Company for 49 years, retiring in March of 2016 as a technical writer. Jim was former Janesville City Clerk and Mayor, and was currently serving on the City Council. He was a member of the Janesville Lions Club and Janesville United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader and Treasurer. Jim was an avid modeler, NASCAR fan and was a member of several hobby clubs.

Jim is survived by his wife, Pam MacKay, of Janesville; a son, David (Jane) MacKay, of Fountain, Minnesota; three daughters, Valerie (Tom) Cornish of Cedar Falls, Bridget (Lowell) Brown of Waterloo and Rebekah MacKay of Cedar Falls; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren, and two sisters, Anne (Dave) Sterling of Delaware and Catherine “Bonnie” (Don) Shelton of Gaithersburg, Maryland.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Winston Michael MacKay.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2017, at the Janesville Community Center, with burial at Oakland Cemetery in Janesville at a later date. Visitation will be 5—8:00 p.m. Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and one hour before service at the Janesville Community Center. Memorials may be directed to Janesville Consolidated High School in memory of Jim, Janesville Lions Club Sight Program or Janesville United Methodist Church Building Fund.
