Biography--

Marjorie Grace Holeman stepped into eternity on Wednesday, June 15, 2015 at Linn Haven Rehab and Healthcare Center. Born on the Grundy County farm to parents Rolly O. Aiken and Fern Crouse Aiken on January 3, 1922 and she graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1940.

Following the unexpected death of her mother in 1939 and being the oldest daughter, she cared for her four siblings while she completed her senior year and until September 1941 when the Aiken family was separated into separate homes.

January 22, 1944 she married Paul Rex Holeman of Grundy Center and they took over operation of the family farm in 1945 after Paul’s Army Air Force discharge. He passed away March 10, 1993.

Marjorie operated a Linotype machine at the Grundy Register for twenty years. She taught Sunday School, and Paul and Marj sang duets for church services, weddings and funerals.

She enjoyed needlepoint, cross stitch, knitting, reading, puzzles, gardening, flowers and correspondence with her brothers and sisters.

Retiring from farming in 1986, they moved to Waterloo, and in 2003, Marj wrote “Reflections and Memories of My First 80 Years." Copies are in the Grundy Center and Conrad, Iowa, libraries.

Marj is survived by her son, Roger (Linda) Holeman of Waterloo; her daughter, Paulette Holeman of West Des Moines, IA; by two grandchildren, Reverend Mark (Jann) Holeman of Newaygo, Michigan and Mindy (Mark) Williams of Waterloo; and five great-grandchildren: Christian (Anna) Holeman, Adam and Laura Holeman, Emily and Caleb Williams; sisters, Marilyn Akkerman of Palm Desert, CA, and Myrna Wood of Picton, Ontario, Canada; brother, Rolly (Bev) Aiken of New Tazewell, TN; and many nephews and nieces; and the many friends she made throughout the years.

She was preceded in death by beloved husband of 49 years, Paul and parents, Rolly and Fern Aiken; brothers, Harold and Homer Aiken; and by sisters, Mildred Morrison and Miriam Henry.
