Biography--

Merle A. Schilling, 65, of Waterloo, Iowa, and formerly of Dunkerton, Iowa, died Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at UnityPoint Health Allen Hospital of cardiac arrest.

He was born April 15, 1951, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Eugene and Margaret (Neuhaus) Schilling. He was a 1969 graduate of Denver High School. Merle married Debra Brown on November 29, 1970 in Denver, they were later divorced.

Merle worked for John Deere Co. as a press operator and in assembly for 31 years, retiring in 2003. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 838.

He is survived by his mother, Margaret (Richard) Miller of Waverly; one son, Chris (Jessica) Schilling of Evansdale; two daughters, Michelle (Leon) Smith of Waterloo, Melissa Schilling of Evansdale; by eight grandchildren: Dana, Brice, Brayden, Justin, Tristan, Heather, K’lyn and Kobe; two great-granddaughters, Aubreeonna and Kayslee; one brother, Mike (Alla) Schilling of Minnesota; by two sisters, Linda Brown of South Carolina and Patty Short of Kentucky; and by a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; two grandchildren, Jaycee M. Schilling and Leon Smith; and by one sister, Kim Gade.
