Biography--

Janice Stern, 63, of Waterloo, Iowa, died on October 9, 2016 at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital, in Waterloo, of cardiac arrest.

She was born on February 9, 1953, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard Harold and Flora Bell (McGill) Kuhn.

Janice graduated from Jefferson High School in Independence; she received her Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from the University of Northern Iowa in 1975.

She married John “Joe” Stern on March 9, 1984, in Waterloo. Janice worked as a photographer for 25 years.

Survivors include her husband, John “Joe” Stern of Waterloo; son, Jesse Stern of Waterloo; sister, Marilyn (Allan) Oline of Independence; brother, Harold “Hal” Kuhn of Waukesha, WI; two nieces, Michele (John) Shonka of Papillion, NE and Laurie (Joel) Clausen of Otsego, MN; and four nephews: David Oline of Hopkins, MN, Danny (Amber) Oline of West Branch, IA, Ryan Kuhn of Milwaukee, WI, and Scott Kuhn of Rio Rancho, New Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister in infancy, Margaret Elaine Kuhn.
