Monday, October 24, 2016 at St. Paul United Methodist Church - La Porte City

Visitation:
Sunday at La Porte City Funeral Home and also one hour before the service at the church.

Cemetery:
West View Cemetery in La Porte City with Military Rites will be conducted by the La Porte City American Legion U.S.S. San Diego Post #207.

Biography--

Junior L. McBride, 91, of La Porte City, Iowa, died Friday, October 21, 2016 at La Porte City Specialty Care.

He was born April 18, 1925 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Eva (Goddard) McBride. He married Oma Jean Catt on April 2, 1950 at the First Methodist Church in Independence, Iowa. They had four daughters. She preceded him in death on February 28, 1979. He married Peggy Halbfass on May 24, 1985 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Junior graduated from Brandon High School in 1943. He served two years in the U.S. Army. He became a carpenter, starting his own business in 1953. He built and remodeled many homes in and around La Porte City. He also remodeled many buildings, including La Porte City Hall, Farmers State Bank, La Porte City Veterinary Office, La Porte City Post Office and the apartments at 6 corners.

He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, La Porte City American Legion U.S.S. San Diego Post #207, Midwest Tool Collectors Association and Missouri Valley Wrench Club. Junior was a long time resident of La Porte City, he enjoyed the history and collection of La Porte City memorabilia, along with hammers, canes and antiques. In 1997 he received the Jesse Wasson award.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy of La Porte City; four daughters: Ellen Pursell of Citrus Heights, CA, Lurene (Jeff) Swalve of Estherville, Marla (James) Hanna, Sr. of La Porte City, June (Mike) Arbuckle of Georgetown, IL; two grandchildren, Katy Pursell of Sacramento, CA and Jesse Pursell of Citrus Heights, CA; one sister, Earlene McBride of Waterloo; five step grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren and six step great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife and two sons-in-law, James Turpin and Richard Pursell.

La Porte City Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements 319-342-3131.
