Mildred “Millie” Cora Benson, 93, of Waterloo, Iowa, and formerly of Evansdale, Iowa, met her Lord Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center.
Mildred was born October 1, 1923, in Wooden, Iowa; the daughter of Peder and Lula Mae (Gephart) Helland. Mildred attended Scarville school.
She married Judien Benson on February 7, 1942, in Waseca, Minnesota. They divorced in 1993.
Mildred worked in the factory for FleetGuard in Lake Mills, Minnesota for 28 years. She was a member for the Evansdale AMVETS Auxiliary.
Millie was an avid card player, enjoying games at Evansdale AMVETS, and at her poker table at home. She looked forward to the Seniors bus to Tama for Keno and BINGO. Country, Gospel and Barber Shop music was also a part of her life. The staff at Ravenwood said she would sing for them, and wanted to be included in singing activities. She also took part in the wine and cheese tastings at Ravenwood. She was raised in the Lutheran church and raised her children also in the Lutheran church.
She is survived by two sons, Allen Benson of Waterloo and Jerry (Ruth) Benson of Peculiar, Missouri; grandchildren: Michael Benson, Ben Miller, Shawn and Christopher Benson, Jerry and James Benson, Carolyn Blake, John Parker, Kathleen De Carlo, and Carol Holsman; and many great-grandchildren.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Roger Benson; two daughters-in-law, Sheri Benson and Teresa Benson; former husband, Judien Benson; and three siblings: Mable Vaale, Walter Hellard, and Lester.
