Biography--

Martha J. Wissink, 93, of Dunkerton, died Thursday November 24, 2016 at the Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer.

She was born on August 23, 1923 in East Des Moines Township, near Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Mary (Ney) Davis. Martha graduated from Oskaloosa High School and the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. She was a veteran of the United States Navy WAVE program during World War II, serving from 1943-1945.

Martha was united in marriage with Lloyd A. Wissink on February 26, 1950, in Waterloo, Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 15, 2009. Martha worked as a secretary at Rath Packing Co. for several years. After her marriage, she and her husband farmed for many years.

Martha was a lifetime farm wife, mother and homemaker. She also found time to be an active member at St. John’s Lutheran Church - Bennington Township and was a very supportive mother who enjoyed watching her daughter’s sports activities.

Survivors include three daughters, Becky (Dick) Martin of Wake Forest, NC, Jackie (Charles) Olson of Ames, Iowa, and Janet (Keith) Custer of Dunkerton, Iowa: seven grandchildren, Kristi (Donald) Fleischman, Luke (Jessica) Martin, Tim (Emily) Martin, Cari (Bob) Hague, Tony (Kelly) Olson, Marty (Anj) Olson, and Alex (David) Hefner; three step grandchildren, Kevin Custer, Kreg Custer and Todd Appenzeller; 13 great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Grady Fleischman, Sammy, Livie and Betsy Martin, Brody, Eli, Charli and Mila Hague, Abram, Mal and Ephraim Olson, Hayden Hefner; and six step great-grandchildren Kelly, Tommy, Chip and Chey Custer, Sam and Luke Appenzeller and a sister Helen Bakker of Aplington, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Richard and George Davis; and a sister, Doris Davis; as well as a step granddaughter, Kristi Appenzeller.
