Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Queen of Peace Parish, 320 Mulberry St. in Waterloo

Visitation:
Tuesday, December 6 at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, 3146 Kimball Avenue in Waterloo (with 4:30 p.m. Rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture Service). Visitation will continue Wednesday after 9 a.m. at the Church.

Cemetery:
St. Michael Cemetery in Nashua

Biography--

Adelia F. Biretz, age 88, of Waterloo, died Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center in Clarksville, Iowa.

She was born March 12, 1928 on the family farm in Bremer County near Horton, Iowa, the daughter of Harry L. and Lena M. (Baker) Peters and attended country school. Adelia was united in marriage with Edward Biretz on September 6, 1944 at St. Michael Parish in Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death on May 26, 2000.

In her younger years, Adelia worked as a cook and waitress for several establishments in Waterloo and was a homemaker. She was a member of Queen of Peace Parish, Rosary Society, St. Martha’s Circle and Blue Star Mothers. Adelia treasured time spent with her family, enjoyed camping and attending family reunions.

Survivors include three sons: Richard (Mary Kay) Biretz of Waterloo, Kenneth (Deena) Biretz of Fertile, Iowa, and Charles (Rebecca) Biretz of Duncannon, Penna.; three daughters: Janet (Nick) Shackleton of Manly, Iowa, Cynthia (Dave) Bowers of Mason City, Iowa, and Rebecca (Dan) Johnson of Waterloo; a son-in-law, Richard Wright of Toledo, IA; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a brother, Melvin Peters of Mt. Home, Arkansas; a step sister, Sylvia Krahanbuhl of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; and a step brother, Jerry Herrick of Osage, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, George Herrick; her husband; a daughter, Karolyn Wright; a son, Eugene and a daughter, Kathryn in infancy; two grandsons, Michael Fisher and Charles Biretz; a brother, Leroy Peters; two sisters and their husbands, Carol (Hank) DeGroote and Myrna (Gerald) Vikturek.
