Biography--

Neil T. McCaffery, Jr., 65, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Cedar Falls Western Home Martin Center following a short illness.

He was born October 23, 1951 in Waterloo the son of Neil T. and Helen J. (Neessen) McCaffery, Sr.

He attended River Hills School at the age of 5. He lived at Woodward for a period of time where he helped take care of the babies in the hospital. While he was there he learned the art of weaving on a loom where he made beautiful rugs and wall hangings.

Later on in life he moved back to Waterloo where he lived in various group homes under the direction of Exceptional Persons Inc. Neil did live independently for five years and following that moved to a group home that was staffed 24 hours with the most wonderful people.

He attended programs including the Choice Programs of EPI, North Star Community at Newell Post and Northeast Iowa Special Olympics. Neil especially loved to bowl and play cards. He loved his chocolate chip cookies!!!

He is survived by two sisters, Cheryl (Richard) Jensen of Waverly, Nancy (James) Probst of Green River, Wyoming; nieces and nephews, Angie (Kris) Dugger and children Peyton and Sydni of Nevada, Iowa, Chris (Dave) Bergman and children Jake and Alivia of Clive, Dawn (Bill) Ginnett and Rylee of Las Vegas, Nevada, Neil (Corrie) Probst and children, Daniel, Jacob and James of Green River, Wyoming; two loving aunts and numerous cousins.

Preceded in death by his parents.
