He worked at Rath Packing Co., and then drove truck for various companies including Gamble-Robinson, and later worked at the Waterloo Street Department for the City of Waterloo for 16 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Municipal Labor Union, Disabled American Veterans, and was an active member at Hagerman Baptist Church. Earle was a deacon at Hagerman Baptist, he taught Sunday School, and sang both solos and in the choir at church and also sang in several quartets.

He enjoyed reading the dictionary for years, which paid off when he filled out daily crossword puzzles. One of Earle’s greatest joys was his personal relationship with Jesus. Earle had a great memory, and never forgot anybody. He loved to get to know people and carry on conversations, he also enjoyed traveling.

Earle was survived by three children: Donna (Forrest) Voss of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, David (Lois) Carner, of Readlyn, Iowa, and Roberta (Larry) Lowe of Mt. Airy, MD and; five grandchildren, Brian Voss, Monica Carner, Josh Carner, Jenny Smithson, and Betsy Teets; and by ten great-grandchildren.
