Biography--

James R. Glaspie Sr., age 70, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Thursday, April 6, 2017, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, of complications of heart surgery.

He was born January 28, 1947 in Waterloo, the son of Boyd and Estella Vaughn Glaspie.

James was a graduate of Waterloo East High School with the Class of 1965.

He was united in marriage with Paulette Taylor on January 28, 1967, at the Salvation Army Chapel in Waterloo.

James was a network construction technician for Qwest Communications, retiring after 43 years of service. He was a member of the Communications Workers of America and a volunteer for the Salvation Army.

James was very involved with the Boy Scouts, having served as the Scoutmaster for Troop 11 and was the recipient of the National Silver Beaver Award.

Survivors include his wife, Paulette of Waterloo; two sons, James R. (Jan) Glaspie, Jr. of Cedar Falls and Jeff Glaspie of Des Moines; a daughter, Jennifer Glaspie of Waterloo; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Steve Glaspie of Aplington, Iowa and Frank Hansel, Sr. of Greene, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter; a brother, Dave Hansel and a sister, Judy Hingtgen.
