Biography--

Benjamin Franklin “Ben” Schake, 88, of Waterloo, died Monday, April 10, 2017 at ManorCare Health Services.

He was born October 6, 1928 in Bellingham, Minnesota, the son of Leverne and Louise (Steffen) Schake.

He married Nancy Cagley on April 7 1951 in Waterloo. She preceded him in death on August 18, 2016.

Ben served in the U.S. Army as a mechanic/welder during the Korean Conflict. He was owner/operator of Ben’s Auto in Waterloo for many years.

He enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, playing cards, watching Westerns and football, and working on cars and lawnmowers.

He is survived by two sons, Terry (LaDonna) Schake of Tucson, Arizona and Steve Schake of Waterloo; a daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" Delos Reyes of Waterloo; two granddaughters: Heather Schake of Park Falls, WI, formerly of Waterloo and Danielle Schake of Minneapolis, MN; a great-granddaughter, Aubrey Renshaw, daughter of Danielle; one brother, Donald Schake of Madison, Minnesota; and four sisters, Elda Bjork of Redwood Falls, Minnesota, Lucille Hansen of Canby, Minnesota, Elnora (Chad) Orton of Fresno, California, Pearl (Dave) Gadnalske of Rapid City, South Dakota.

Preceded in death by: his parents; his wife; three brothers, Alvin, Ernest and Lawrence Schake and three sisters, Gladys Schake, Irene Wertz and Marie Hovel.
