John J. Jorgensen

November 5, 1924 - September 6, 2016

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – John J. Jorgensen, 91, of Cedar Falls died Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

He was born November 5, 1924, in Chickasaw County, son of John and Marie (Paulsen) Jorgensen. He graduated from New Hartford High School. John married Virginia Clabough on November 23, 1943 and they later divorced. He married Susan White in 1967 in Galena, Illinois.

John served in the Army Air Force as a Nose Turret Gunner on a B24 Liberator in Europe during World War II. He was a Life Member of the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. He owned Gaslight Mobile Home Park and Jorgensen Construction.

He is survived by his wife, Susan of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Linda (Ron) Risting of Dike and Deborah (Greg) Sarandi of Scottsdale, AZ; three sons, Fred (Susan) Jorgensen, Robert (Wendy) Jorgensen, and Matt (Melissa) Jorgensen, all of Cedar Falls; three step children, Cindra (Art) Cellini of Grand Junction, CO, Douglas (Jennifer) Larsen of Farmington, MN, and Gina (Rodney) Mott of Penryn, CA; 22 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Kjaer of Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Hering; a brother, Donald Jorgensen; and another brother in infancy.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls. The AMVETS Post 49 Honor Guard will present full military honors at 6:30 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the Cedar Falls AMVETS #49 Honor Guard.
