Joyce Ann Borglum

July 28, 1934 - November 5, 2016

Joyce Ann (Nettleton) Borglum born to Donovan Felix and Helen (Woodruff) Nettleton in Panora Iowa, passed on, surrounded by her husband, sons and family, in her home in Waterloo on November 5, 2016, after a long, hard fought battle with breast cancer. She was 82.

Joyce was a loyal supporter and fan of the University of Iowa Hawkeyes and the University of Northern Iowa Panthers for many years. Many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren have lives filled with memories of going with grandma and grandpa to the basketball and football games. So many other fans knew her well as did the teams and coaching staff. She would often refer to Panthers head coach, Ben Jacobsen, as her fourth son. This was no surprise as one of the things Joyce was best at was making others feel loved and part of her family. From her sons’ school time friends, their eventual spouses and their families, to her sorority sisters, her employees at Kay Park Recreation in Janesville to her always growing family. Joyce was great at loving.

She met Keith Borglum in 1960, dancing at the Electric Park Ballroom and was married on September 21, 1961, Galena, Illinois. They recently celebrated their 55th Anniversary. In true Joyce style, this celebration was in the form of a family vacation to Branson, Missouri where 34 members, of the now, 4th generation family gathered together.

What she always enjoyed most was having family dinners together. At these dinners, you could see the joy in her eyes at the sight of her sons and their families gathered together, loud, laughing, (her son Larry’s unforgettable giggle) as they shared memories and stories with one another.
Keith and Joyce worked at their family business until earlier this year when Keith, now age 90, looked after his wife whom he adored. He made sure that any caregiver knew exactly how she liked things. Keith (an avid lover of honey) would tell his great grandchildren that Joyce is his favorite honey of all. He sat with her, by her side, and talked with her while she rest, in her last moments with us, shortly after she passed on to be with her Heavenly Father.

She is survived by her husband Keith Borglum; their three sons: Mike (Jo) Borglum of O’Fallon Missouri, their children Brooks (Tasha), Kyle (Kristi) and their son Austin, and Jennifer; Chris (Danice) Borglum of Waverly Iowa, their children Lytishya (Liz) and their children Jaclynn, Kayden, Berlyn, Christian, Kherrigan and Landon, Brandee and her sons Marley and Marshall, Tanner (Lindy), Summer, and Kristyn (James), Larry (Lisa) Borglum of Janesville Iowa, their children Amanda Ann (Ryan) Stark, their daughters Aaliyah and Jaelynn, Megan (Jared) Hartwig and their daughter Mya, Nick (Amanda Lynn), and many nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her sister La Vonne Albert and brother Bob Nettleton.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 9 at First United Methodist in Cedar Falls where Keith & Joyce have been long time active members. Visitation will be from 4-7pm Tuesday, November 8 at Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls, as well as one hour prior to the service at church. Interment in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
