Francis E. “Fritz” Althof (1926-2015), M. Elaine Althof (1926-2017)

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – Francis E. “Fritz” Althof, 88, of Cedar Falls died Friday, January 23, 2015 and M. Elaine Althof, 90, of Cedar Falls died Monday, January 23, 2017, both at Western Home Communities Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center.

Fritz was born May 22, 1926 in New Hampton, son of Ludwig and Emma Weber Althof. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School and worked in Sales for National Hardware.

Elaine was born July 26, 1926 in Delaware County, daughter of Edward and Ada (Moser) Coon. She graduated from Waterloo East High School and was a bookkeeper with Armstrong’s Department Store in Cedar Rapids. The couple married on February 7, 1945 in Waterloo.

Survived by two sons, Larry (Margaret) Althof of Cedar Falls and Craig (Jackie) Althof of Newton; daughter, Jeanne (Steve) Rahe of Petersburg; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; Elaine’s sister, Kay (Dick) Voyek of Branson, MO; and Fritz's brothers, Ron (Georgia) Althof of Millard, NE, and Wendell (Sandra) Althof of Dysart.

Preceded in death by Elaine’s sisters, Norma and Marilyn; and Fritz’s brother, Kenneth.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with inurnment in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation for one hour prior to the service. Richardson Funeral Service is assisting the family.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Bend Humane Society.
