Darlene R. O’Brien (1949-2017)

ELK RUN HEIGHTS, IOWA – Darlene R. O’Brien, 67, of Elk Run Heights, died Sunday, March 19, 2017 at her home.

She was born November 21, 1949 in Waterloo, Iowa, daughter of Ben and Edna (Stricker) Widner. She married Larry O’Brien on January 22, 1971 in Galena, Illinois.

She attended Jesup High School and worked in the Insurance and Billing Office at Covenant Medical Center for 15 years.

Darlene was very lucky in life to have an identical twin sister, Marlene Smith, who throughout her life was her best friend. Darlene loved sewing and made thousands of quilts. She also loved to bake and spend time with her grandchildren.

Survived by: her husband, Larry of Elk Run Heights; two daughters, Tamy Ciesielski of Manchester and Leasa (Dennis) Hofmann of Evansdale; two sons, Shaun O’Brien and Casey (Jill) O’Brien, both of Elk Run Heights; eight grandchildren: Cody Ciesielski, Dillon Ciesielski, Dustin Hofmann, Joseph O’Brien, Amber O’Brien, Damon O’Brien, Kaitlin O’Brien, and Braden O’Brien; one great-grandson, Carl Ciesielski; a twin sister, Marlene Smith of Parkersburg; and a brother, James (Brenda) Widner of Jesup.

Preceded in death by: her parents.

Private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Richardson Funeral Service is assisting the family.
