Julia “Julie” Bailey (1919-2017)

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – Julia “Julie” Bailey, 97, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Western Home Communities Windhaven.

She was born July 23, 1919, in Cedar Falls, the daughter of Samuel and Grace (Simpson) Bailey.

She graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1937 and earned her BA degree in English from Cornell College in 1941. She furthered her education at Iowa State Teachers College and received her MA in Library Science from the University of Minnesota. She was a librarian at Cedar Falls High School for 27 years, retiring in 1984.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, AAUW and PEO. Her life-long interests were reading, music, travel and people. Her favorite volunteer job was recording books for the blind.

Julie is survived by a nephew, Lawrence (Nancy) Bailey and their children: Ransom, Anne and Julia.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ransom and David Bailey.

No services are planned at this time. Inurnment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
