Biography--

William A. "Bill" Haberstich, 88 of Waterloo, Iowa, died at UnityPoint Health‑‑Allen Hospital on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 of natural causes.

He was born on June 2, 1928 in Ellsworth, Wisconsin, son of August and Linnet Bunce Haberstich. Bill attended and graduated from Sleepy Hollow rural school in Ellsworth.

He married Virginia Mae Breitsprecher in 1949 at the Burton Ave. Baptist Church; she died August 22, 2010.

He and partner Al Wheeler operated Washland Leasing Service for 25 years; worked at Titus Manufacturing for 20 years; plant manager at Santa Claus Industries for a year; he owned/operated three laundromats in the Cedar Valley and ran a laundry route.

Bill was a former member of the Burton Ave. Baptist Church from 1948‑1978 where he was a Deacon, Head Deacon, Usher, Head Usher, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. He then transferred membership in 1978 to Walnut Ridge Baptist Church and served as Deacon. He was also the Chairman of West High Band Boosters.

He is survived by his daughter, Vicki (Steve) Barfels of Hudson, Iowa; son, Jeff (Karla) Haberstich of Morgan, Utah; daughter, Tami (Charlie) Thorsen of Rock Hill, SC; five grandchildren: Aaron (Carrie) Barfels, Joel Barfels, Lucas Haberstich, Austin Thorsen and Caris Thorsen; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Watterson of Michigan and Phyllis Watters of Waterloo, Iowa.

Bill was preceded in death by nine siblings: John, Elma, Robert, Ina, Raymond, James, Daniel, Glenn, and Edwin.
