Biography--

Laurene Mae Gillen, 93, of Waterloo, formerly of Elk Run Heights, Iowa, died at Rosewood Estate of Friendship Village on Sunday, December 11, 2016, of natural causes.

She was born July 16, 1923 in Waterloo, the daughter of Benjamin and Minnie Oakley Dally and graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1941.

She married Sandlin Gillen on August 13, 1946 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Laurene had been a secretary at Rath Meat Packing then was a homemaker for most of her life. She was a member of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church.

Laurene is survived by her husband, Sandlin of Waterloo; son, Sandlin (Joy) Gillen, Longview, TX; daughter, Sheryl Moser, Racine, WI; son,: Steve (Jane) Gillen, Waterloo; son, Tim (Patty) Gillen, Des Moines; son, Dan (Lacinda) Gillen, Marshalltown; 12 grandchildren: Reneé Gillen, Blake Gillen, Laura (Scott) Hughes, Brett Gillen, Matt Gillen, Zach (Sara) Gillen, Megan (Derek) Jacobson, Christina Gillen and Alyssa Gillen, Carrie (Jason) Minikus, Mike (Ashley) Lentzkow, and Tom (Sarah) Lentzkow; 10 great grandchildren: Kylee Hughes; Levi, Layna and Lakin Jacobson; Ella and Rhiya Minikus; Hunter, Tanner and Drake Lentzkow and Hudson Lentzkow; brother, Wayne Dally, Cottage Grove, MN; sister, Elinor DeBar, Waterloo; sister, Evelyn Chizek, Waverly, IA; and sister-in-law, Lydia Dally, Orlando, FL.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Debra Lentzkow; sons‑in‑law, Lloyd Lentzkow and John Moser; and brothers, Leland Dally and Dale Dally.
