Wednesday, January 25, 2017 with a 4:00 Rosary Service and 7:00 Vigil at Locke Funeral Home

Cemetery:
inurnment will be at a later date in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque

Biography--

Judith Nadine Simmons, 72, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at Covenant Medical Center Thursday, January 19, 2017 of natural causes.

She was born July 6, 1944 in Independence, Iowa, daughter of John J. and MaryAnn Geigerich Rolling.

Judy graduated from Dubuque Wahlert High School; graduated Upper Iowa University Magna Cum Lauda with a degree in Social Work. She married Lawrence F. Simmons and they were later divorced.

Judy worked as a social worker and CNA in Houston, Texas and then as a social worker and in home health care in Dubuque. She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church.

Judy was a Scrabble Aficionado. She was a great teacher, especially of English and Grammar. She taught CCD at St. Edward Catholic Church. Jean was a closet tomboy, when she was younger she loved to go fishing with the boys. She was very nurturing and knew how to forgive. Judy was very family oriented, her family and faith were very important aspects of her life.

Survivors include two daughters, Judith Marie Kartous of Reinbeck and LaraLee Joan Simmons of Madison, Wisconsin; two sons, Kenneth Lawrence Simmons of Texas and Jon‑Edward James (Ken) Frasher of Waterloo; nine grandchildren: Lili, Michael, Tiffany, Steven, Sarah, Patrick, Kendra, Emily and Clarissa, four great-grandchildren: Hunter, Lilly, P.J., and Haylee. She is also survived by two sisters, Ann Rolling Bauer of Dubuque, and Linda Lawless of Charles City; by five brothers: Ted (Mardi) Rolling of Omaha, NE, Jim (Karen) Rolling of Dubuque, Joe (Zahir) Rolling of Cleveland, Ohio, Ken (Gloria) Wyninger of Florida, Bill (Edna) Wyninger of Lansing, and Charles (Stephanie) Stoeffler of Manchester; two sisters-in-law, Sheryl Wyninger of Wyoming and Jina of Dubuque; and a brother-in-law, Ed Bauer of Dubuque; as well as many nieces & nephews.

Judy is preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew; and by three brothers: Chet Wyninger, Doug Stoeffler and Robert Wyninger.
