Biography--

Betty J. High, 80, of Waterloo, Iowa died at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 of complications from cancer.

She was born February 15, 1937 in Polk City, Iowa, the daughter of Stanley and Velma Yepsen McDowell.

Betty married Leonard "John" High on May 27, 1956 at First Presbyterian Church in Ackley, Iowa. She graduated from Ackley High School in 1955. Betty was a cook for the Waterloo Community School District at West High School and retired in 1992.

She was a member of Real Life Church and former member of Church of Christ. She was a supporter of Boys Club Wrestling for several years. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers, fishing, and camping clubs.

She is survived by her husband, a daughter in law, Sonia High of Shell Rock; son, Randy (Tammy) High of Waterloo; daughter, Dawn Larson of Spokane, Washington; son, Danny High of Jesup, Iowa; son, Kevin (Pam) High of Webster City, Iowa; son, Dennis (Jean) Kinard of Cedar Falls, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; brother, Edward S. (Wanda) McDowell of Cedar Falls; and 19 foster children.

Betty is preceded in death by a son, Lenny High.
