A FATAL ACCIDENT

YOUNG LADY BURNED TO DEATHWaterloo, Jan. 5. – Amanda Strayer, a teacher in the Waterloo public schools, was fatally burned this afternoon, by the explosion of a gasoline can. She was emptying the gasoline from the can into another vessel when the gasoline ignited. The burning mass was thrown over her she was instantly enveloped in a sheet of flames. Her mother was dangerously burned about the face, arms and hands in trying to help the young woman.

OBITUARYAmanda M. J. Strayer was born October 28, 1876, near Johnstown, Pa., being the daughter of John E. and Julia A. Strayer. Her places of residence before coming to Waterloo with her parents fourteen years ago, were Johnston, Pa. and Buffalo, N. Y. Besides the parents she left brothers and sisters as follows: Martha A., Herber R., Platt R., John E. Jr., Merle and Emma, all at home.
