Services Held For Henry M. Utesch

Funeral services were held Monday, May 3 at 11 a.m. in the Conway Funeral Home in Riceville for Henry M. Utesch, formerly of the McIntire area. Mr. Utesch passed away while a resident in the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home in Waterloo. Rev. Alf Merseth officiated the services.

Henry Utesch was born February 23, 1887, in Hollingstedt, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, the son of Fred and Christina Utesch. At the age of 6 months he came with his parents to Yutan, Nebraska and lived there until he moved to Texas in 1910. He came to McIntire, Iowa where he married Bernice Crittenden on August 16, 1919. To this union, three daughters were born. Later he moved to Kansas where he was employed by the Kansas City-Leavenworth Railroad. Returning to Iowa in 1938, he lost his wife in 1940.

Later he moved to Waterloo and was employed by John Deere until his retirement in 1953. He married Addie Spaeth in 1949 and she passed away in 1958. In 1959, he married Alvina Hein, who passed away in 1978.

He is survived by his three daughters, Mrs. Merle (Elizabeth) McKinley of San Benito, Texas; Mrs. Rollie (Isabel) Robinson of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Mrs. Charles (Ruth) Lund of Brandon, Iowa; 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Louise Lubbert, Mrs. Ruth Funte and Frieda Utesch, all of Riceville, and Mrs. Alvina Ball of Clinton, and one brother, Fred, of Riceville.

Internment was in Wayne Cemetery in McIntire with the Conway Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

McIntire News: The Henry Utesch family, who had been living on a farm near Elma, moved to the Ervin Wheeler farm. The Amel Hendrickson family moved into the farm vacated by Mr. Utesch.
