Biography--

Marcella Tyra Cooling, of Solon and formerly of Waterloo, died June 1, 2016 following a brief illness at the age of 93 at the Solon Nursing Care Center where she was a resident for the last two years.

She is survived by her eight children -- Chris (Doug) Schmitz of Dubuque, IA, Caren Ormston of Phoenix, AZ, Curt (Ellen) Cooling of Omaha, NE, Connie Cooling (Tony Ledtje) of Muscatine, IA, Catherine (Brian) Till of Coralville, IA, Craig Cooling of Denver, CO, Clifford Cooling of Waterloo, IA, and Casey (Lori) Cooling of Vinton, IA. Marcella has 23 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grand-daughters.

Marcella is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cooling of Waterloo in 2000, her brother, Richard Freeburg (Berneice) of Red Oak, Iowa, in 2012, a son-in-law, Jim Ormston of Phoenix, AZ, in 2001, and two infant grand-children.

She was born in Red Oak, Iowa, on June 23, 1922. The daughter of Thure and Ingeborg (Nelson) Freeburg. She met Bob Cooling in Des Moines while she was attending AIB (American Institute of Business) and Bob was finishing his pharmacy degree at Drake University. They were married in Des Moines on January 11, 1943 and moved to Waterloo after Bob's discharge from the Marines.

Marcella was primarily a stay-at-home mom, but kept the books for the two pharmacies that Bob Cooling owned or co-owned -- Hartliep & Cooling Drug, and Robert Drug in Waterloo. She was well-known for her wonderful cooking and established many family recipes. She was active in book clubs and church activities at St. Mary's and later at Queen of Peace including the Perpetual Adoration Prayer Group.

She was a great lady, was much loved, and will be missed.

10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church: 320 Mulberry St, Waterloo, Iowa

Cemetery:
Inurnment at a later date in Calvary Cemetery
