Obituary for Annabelle Magee

Annabelle Magee, 88, surrounded by her children, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 31, 2015, in Sun City West, Arizona, after a brief illness.

She was born August 22, 1927 in Parkersburg, Iowa to Sena (Seims) and Kuehney Smith. Like most of the Greatest Generation, Annabelle grew up during The Depression. She was the eldest of five children, her father died when she was six years old, so life was not easy for her and her family. As a youth, she worked hard to help her family and had summer jobs away from home as a kitchen helper at area farms. She later worked at the local movie theatre.

After graduating from high school, Annabelle worked at the local phone company. In 1950, she married returning World War II Marine vet, Cecil David Magee, in Dunkerton, Iowa.

Annabelle was a full time homemaker until 1969 when Cecil became ill with pulmonary disease that would last nearly 42 years. Continuing her history of providing for her family, she obtained her real estate license and helped Cecil run his real estate company, while caring for their 5 children, then aged 9-18. In 1978, Annabelle and Cecil moved to AZ. While continuing to care for Cecil, she was also a very successful Realtor in the Sun City West area, retiring at the age of 80. After losing Cecil to his battle with heart disease in 2010, Annabelle continued to live in Sun City West, AZ.

Annabelle is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cecil; brother Johnny Smith; sister Francis Murphy; and a son, Richard who died shortly after birth.

Annabelle is survived by her children: Mark (Cristin) of Stuart, Florida; Celia (William) Simmer of Cedar Falls; Dwight (Shawna) of Bradenton, Florida; Amy (Chip) Bradshaw of North Plains, Oregon; and Howard (Michele) of Glendale, Arizona; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; She is also survived her youngest sister Corlene Crane of Sheridan, Iowa, and her youngest brother David Zeiner of Marshalltown, Iowa.

Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28th, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Dunkerton with inurnment in Fairview Cemetery, Dunkerton, with a luncheon to follow at the church.

Any memorials may be directed to the family and will benefit the Peter Kress Post 636 of the American Legion and a memorial in Annabelle’s name at the Dunkerton cemetery.
