Find Body of Woman In Garage
Mrs Esther Smith, wife of Forrest E. Smith, 1051 Oregon St. was found dead in their garage, shortly after 1 PM Thursday by her husband.

A note was found at the scene. Police said she had been despondant. Dr. Albert Dolan, assistant Black Hawk Co. medical examinier, was investigating the death.

Funeral services for Mrs Forrest Smith 59, of 1051 Oregon St, are pending at the Parrot & Wood Funeral Home.
Mrs smith was found dead in the garage of her home shortly before 1 PM Thursday by her husband.
Dr Albert M. Dolan, assistant medical examiner, ruled her death suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning. Dr Dolan said Mrs Smith's body was found lying on the floor of the garage. He said the car was parked in the garage, but its motor was not running.
Mrs Smith had worked as a volunteer for the Red Cross at the Americana Nursing Home.
Mrs Smith was born Esther Rauch in LaPorte City on Aug 16, 1912, the daughter of John and Sarah Rauch. She married Forrest E. Smith on Nov 6, 1937, in Mason City and the couple moved to Waterloo shortly thereafter.
Survivors include her husband, one son, Forrest Jr. of Denver, Co; two daughters, Mrs Wenda Smith of Arlington, TX. and Mrs Marilyn (Kaye)Sanchez of Des Moines, three sisters, Mrs Thubsa (Thursa)
Christensen of 835 1/2 Steely St, Mrs Ida Clark of Dunkerton and Miss Agnes Rauch of Rt. 1 and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son.
Friends may give memorials to the Black Hawk County Mental Health Center.
