Local Man Found Hanging
Dead In His Barn

John Rauch, 90 years old, was found at 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in his barn at his home in the west part of town where he died some time between 2 o'clock and the time he was found by a neighbor, Mrs Wm. Beale. Mr Rauch lived alone and was found hanging by one arm on a ladder which went to the uper part of the barn and he either slipped and caught himself in that way or had a heart spell and due to his weakened condition could not release himself.

He was born August 15, 1856 and was a German colonist in Russian Poland. He came to America in 1882 and became a citizen of the US in 1887.

In 1899, he married Sarah Chasdek and to this union five girls and one boy were born. One daughter and one boy preceded him in death and his wife died 8 August 1939.

He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Theresa (Thursa) Christiansen of Chicago; Mrs. Ida Clark of LaPorte City; Mrs Esther Smith of Iroquois, SD, and Miss Agnes Rauch of Waterloo. Eight grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive.

Funeral services will be on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Johannsen funeral home with burial in West View Cemetery.
