Miriam A. Rodby (1928-2016)

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – Miriam A. Rodby, 87, of Cedar Falls, and formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, died Friday, May 13, 2016 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

She was born July 31, 1928 in Mallard, Iowa, daughter of George and Elinor (Henderson) Steinbron. She married Roy Rodby on June 10, 1950 in Jesup, and they later divorced.

She graduated from Jesup High School in 1946, earned her teaching certificate in 1952, and her BA in Music from the University of Northern Iowa in 1971. She taught elementary school for five years, then for 61 years taught private piano, Suzuki piano, and voice lessons in her home until just a few weeks ago. Her students ranged from three to 70+ years old.

She was a member of Cedar Heights Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls, where she served as a deacon. She was Past President of the Northeast Area Music Teachers Association (NAMTA) and LMI (Ladies Musical Improvement) club.

She is survived by a son, Michael (Mischel Berg) Rodby of Kihei, Hawaii; a daughter, Barbara (Tom) Hall of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Helen Welch of Fayette and Ruth Melles of Rockton, Illinois; and a brother, Melvin Steinbron of St. Paul, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: Maurice, Harold, and Fred Steinbron.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Heights Presbyterian Church, with inurnment in Garden of Memories Cemetery prior to the service. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Richardson Funeral Service in Cedar Falls.

Miriam was a soprano soloist and choir member for several area churches as well as a soloist in the Metropolitan Chorale and other civic organizations. She was a member of the National Music Teachers Association, Iowa Music Teachers Association, and Waterloo Choral Association.
