Richard D. "Rich" Ackerman

Died: May 11, 2016

Biography--

Richard Dean Ackerman, better known as “Rich”, fell asleep for the long rest on Wednesday, May 11th. His heart couldn’t keep up with him anymore once cancer made its home in his hard working body.

Rich worked as a machinist at Construction Machinery Company, then at Hap’s Welding at the same time that he worked at John Deere. He retired March 2011 after 38 years of loyal service from John Deere and was a proud member of UAW Local 838.

Rich, being a gun enthusiast was an active member of the Cedar Valley Pistol & Rifle Club, a part of the State Rifle Team National Competitions in the 80’s, and a lifetime member of NRA. One of his fondest memories is when he was a part of the Black Hawk County Sheriff Reserves in the late 80’s.

He shared many stories with his children, Angela Ackerman-Pantilione, Sarah Rangel, and Chris Milius. Rich is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Wayne & Rose Ackerman; Paul & Charlene Ackerman; Neva Petersen; Virginia & Helmet Dickman; and LaVern Ackerman. His grandchildren were the light of his life: Richard D. Pendleton, Riley J. Ackerman, Korenn V. Pendleton, Lily Milius, Dominik Rangel, and Vincent Rangel.

He cherished his many nieces and nephews in which he adored and loved to pick on. He loved his dear companion, Myrna Cosby.

His parents, Lester and Dorothy Ackerman, brothers Don and James Ackerman; and sisters, Kathy Sagert and Marlene Koopman, preceded him in death.
