Waterloo, Iowa – Julia Marie Lown, 93 of Friendship Village, died Thursday, April 28 at the Pavilion.

She was born August 27, 1922 in Independence, daughter of Darrell M. and Marie N. Hallinan Potter. She married Richard Joseph Lown January 29, 1942, at St. John Catholic Church, Independence. He died August 9, 2014.

Julia graduated from St. John’s, Independence and Pitzies Beauty School.

She was secretary of 1st Compassionate Friends Organization and for ACCW Organization. She became a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church after moving to Waterloo in 1953. She was also a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Daughters of American Revolution.

Julia is survived by four daughters, Susan LeQuatte of Waterloo, Julie (Herb) Frye of Grove, Okla., Marie (Steve) Bartell of Appleton, Wisconsin, Lisa (David) Craig of Burnsville, Minn.; seven sons, Tom (Carla) of Waterloo, Greg (Cheryl) of Farmington, Minn., Richard A. (Linda) of Festus, Mo., Robert (Vicki) of Payson, Ariz., David (Lauren) of Apple Valley, Minn., Mark (Susie) of Phoenix, Ariz., Steve (Jan) of Downers Grove, Ill.; a sister in law, Pat Potter of Waterloo; a daughter-in-law, Tarasa Lown, of Ferryville, Wis.; a son-in-law, Marv (Pat) McCrea of Waterloo, 34 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Preceded in death by: a daughter, Beverly McCrea; two sons, Randall and Terry; an infant great-grandson, Michael Feick; a sister, Shirley Baker; a brother, Francis Potter; and a son-in-law, Rick LeQuatte.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 4 at St. Edwards Catholic Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway with a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary, a 6:45 p.m. DAR memorial service and 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue at the church for one hour before services on Wednesday.

Memorials may be directed to: Catholic Worker House, Cedar Valley Hospice, and Friendship Village Auxiliary.

Julia enjoyed genealogy, knitting, and baking.
