Mary Belle (Watkins) Reiseck

Died: April 24, 2016

Biography--

Mary Belle (Watkins) Reiseck, 86, a resident of Waterloo, died Sunday, 24 April at Affinity House in Waterloo, from causes incident to pancreatic cancer.

Mary was born 14 November 1929, in Gotebo, Oklahoma, to Willie Jackson and Mildred (Henderson) Watkins. In her own words, she was “just a little farm girl,” spending her childhood on two farms outside of Plainview in the Texas panhandle.

Her family moved to California for a short time and then re-settled in Chandler, Arizona, where Mary completed her last year of high school. The family lived in a tent while her father built them a house. She attended Wayland Baptist College (now a university) in Plainview. While there, she met and married James Harold Simons on 7 April 1951 in Yuma, Arizona. They had one child, Janet Lee. The three of them lived in Texas, Arizona, California, Alaska, and Iowa, where this marriage ended.

When Mary worked at the Waterloo Post Office, she met and married Roger Allen Reiseck on 15 February 1969 in Galena, Illinois, and lived the rest of their lives in Waterloo. They are the parents of one son, Rodger Carlton.

Our mom worked hard contributing to the family finances in a variety of ways, from offices to manual labor painting apartments, she was an excellent seamstress, had a passion for movies in her 20s and 30s, and was always an avid reader, a love she received from her mother that our mom passed on to her posterity.

She is survived by her sister: Sue; two children; two grandchildren: Heather (Douglas) Markham and Heath (Elizabeth) Fleshner; and ten great-grandchildren: Chelsea, Forrest, Haylee, and Shelby Markham, and Reid, Elise, Felicity, Reese, Randal, and Isabelle Fleshner.

Preceded in death by her husband who died on 21 April 2009, parents, four sisters: Wilma (Sissie), Ruth (Rutchie), Areletha (Jackie), and Mae, and her only brother John.
