Robert L. Horslund

Biography--

Robert L. Horslund, 90, of Waterloo, died at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, on Wednesday April 13, 2016.

Robert was born on August 6, 1925 in East St. Louis, Missouri, son of Elvin Peter and Ethyl (Mason) Horslund.

He graduated from West High School in 1943.

Robert married Millicent Jacobs and they were later divorced. He then married Marla Jean Roberts. She preceded him in death on July 23, 2014.

He served in the US Navy during World War II in the South Pacific, where he was at Tokyo Bay when the armistice was sign in September 1945.

Following his service, Robert worked for his dad and later owned D&D Food Products. During the 70's, he moved to Grand Prairie, Texas, and owned and operated the Golden Chalet Motor Inn until retirement.

Robert is survived by two daughters, Christine (Bill) Sparrgrove of Ft. Meyers, Fla. and Cindy (Danny) Michael of Waterloo; a son, Joel Horslund of Waterloo; a daughter-in-law, Barrie Horslund of Oro Valley, Ariz.; a stepson, Scott (Tammy) Roberts of Grand Prairie, Texas; nine grandchildren: David (Paula) Sparrgrove, Brett (Diana) Sparrgrove, Robert (Leslie) Michael, Julie (Jim) Howard, Nick Horslund, Austin Horslund, Heidi Horslund, Hilary (Jason) Lee, and Clint (Heather) Roberts; many great-grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Fritcher, of Storm Lake, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by: his wife; a son, Jeffrey Horslund; and a sister, Kathryn Beeken.
