Rose Marie Bass

December 31, 1932 - April 8, 2016

Rose Marie Bass, 83, of Waterloo, died Friday, April 8 at Covenant Medical Center.

She was born December 31, 1932, in Gilbertville, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence and Frances Schares Nie. She married Harold Bass on September 16, 1957, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilbertville.

Rose was employed as a cook at Sunnyside Country Club for thirty years, retiring in 2002. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Catholic Order of Foresters, and the American Business Women’s Association.

Survivors include her husband, Harold of Waterloo; two sons, Dean (Pat) of Homer Glen, Ill, and James of Kansas City; two daughters, Lynn Rolfes of Bettendorf and Julie (Mark) Moser of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Justin (Megan) Welsh, Melissa Welsh, Barbara Bass, Brenda Bass, and Molly Moser; a great-granddaughter, Avery Welsh; four sisters, Geneva Russell of Elk Run Heights, Pat (John) Hamling of Vinton, Delores “Lori” (John) Blitsch of Waterloo, and Janice (Arlin) Wente of Waverly.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Gene Nie; a grandson, Brandon Welsh; a son-in-law, Jay Rolfes; and by a brother-in-law, Jim Russell.

Services: Wednesday, April 13, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4-8 P.M. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 P.M. Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary and a 7 P.M. vigil service. Visitation also one hour prior to services at the church.
