Maxine I. Hilmer, 78, of Dent, Minnesota, and formerly of the Brandon and Hudson, Iowa area, died Friday morning January 6, 2006, from cancer.

She was born January 18, 1927, in Zaneta, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Winnie Mae Hulbert Poulter. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1945.

Maxine married Dwane E. Hilmer on July 3, 1945, at the United Brethren Church in Hudson, Iowa. They farmed for 17 years in the Brandon area. The, for 25 years, they were the owner/operators of Hilmer's Haven Resort in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. They then ran Hilmer Haven Campgrounds for five years, retiring in 1993.

Survivors include her husband, Dwane E. of Dent, Minnesota; four sons: Dean (Vicky) of Waverly, Gary (Debbie) of Rochester, Minnesota, Rick (Arlene) of Fort Ville, Indiana, David (Jan) of St. Peters, Missouri; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Clyde W. Poulter.

Services were held Monday, January 9, 2006, at Huisman Funeral Home with burial in West View Cemetery, both of La Port City, Iowa.
