Biography--

Marian Schmitz, 79, of Cedar Falls,Iowa, died Tuesday, March 22 at Covenant Medical Center of cardiac arrest.

She was born January 2, 1937 in Shell Rock, daughter of Lester and Lazetta Renning Lahr. She married James T. Schmitz, on July 2, 1956, in Nashua. He died June 29, 2003.

Marian retired from Cedar Valley Pre-School and Child Care, where she was employed for over 30 years.

Survivors include a son, Dennis Schmitz of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Debbie Picken of Cedar Falls and Dawn (Dino) Rubino of Mt. Auburn; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim (Jo) Lahr of Shell Rock and Bob Lahr of Clarksville and a sister, Dorann Hansen of Cassville, Mo.

Preceded in death by a son, Douglas Schmitz; a sister, Evelyn Kluiter and a son-in-law, Harold Picken.

Services will be Tuesday, March 29, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Cemetery in Eagle Center. Public visitation will be at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway where there will be a 4 pm rosary and a 7 pm vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Tuesday.
