Biography--

Darlene G. Hoppenworth, 88, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at Friendship Village, on Sunday, March 13, 2016, of natural causes.

Darlene was born on July 1, 1927 in Klinger, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob and Malinda Schlomann Herman.

She attended Immanuel Lutheran Parochial in Klinger and graduated from Dunkerton High School in 1945.

Darlene married Orville A. Hoppenworth on October 19, 1947 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Denver, IA. He died March 13, 2011.

She had worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone, Santa Claus Industries, and retired as a supervisor at K-Mart in 1991.

Darlene was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church. She was also an active member of Mary Martha Circle at Christ Lutheran Church. She enjoyed getting together with the “Tella Bells,” her former coworkers at Northwestern Bell Telephone. She also loved to garden, can vegetables, work in her yard, cross stitch, and play cards.

Survived by two daughters, Betty (Bill) Lorch of Joliet, Illinois, and Marian (Gary) Kilpatrick of Waterloo; five grandchildren: Amber Hoppenworth, William (Sandy) Lorch, Debra (Paul) Holthaus, Kelly Parker, and Kristy (Kerry) Cutsforth; seven great-grandchildren: Travis, Billy, and Cassandra Lorch, Randy (Sherry) Dawley, Linda (Casey) Hovey, and Tabitha and Tiffany Aswegan; six great-great-grandchildren: Danielle, Blake & Ashley Dawley, Alysandra and Isaac Salgado, and Hayden Hovey; and sisters-in-law: Pauline Buss of Denver, Iowa, Jean Hoppenworth of Conrad, and Mildred Herman of Osage.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant daughters, Linda & Barbara; an infant son; a brother, LaVerne Herman; and brothers-in-law, Les Hoppenworth and Elmer Buss.
