August 23, 1927 - March 14, 2016

Celeste K. Schares, 88, died Monday, March 14, 2016 at UnityPoint Health - Allen Hospital, Waterloo.

She was born August 23, 1927 near Gilbertville, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob and Laura Phillips Schmitz. She married Alvin Schares on November 22, 1948, in Gilbertville and they were later divorced.

She was employed with the Immaculate Conception School lunch program for twenty-six years.

She is survived by a son, Ron Schares of LaPorte City; two daughters, Diana Schares and Peggy Schares both of Gilbertville; a brother, Ray (Marian) Schmitz of Jesup and a sister, Mary Jean (Ron) Ehr of Jesup.

Preceded in death by a sister, Mardell Schmitz.

Services will be Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, where there will be a 4:30 p.m. rosary. Visitation also one hour preceding services at the church on Thursday.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
