Biography--

Howard W. Treloar, 89, of Waterloo, died at Covenant Medical Center, Saturday, March 5, 2016, of natural causes. Howard was born May 24, 1926, in Sumner, Iowa, son of Gus and Opal Ladwig Treloar.

Howard graduated from Sumner High School in 1944 and in 1945 joined the Army Air Corp and worked as an in flight Areal Engineer stationed in the Philippines.

Howard married Mary Ellen Dallenbach November 16, 1947 at Little Brown Church in Nashua. They moved to Waterloo in the early ‘50s and he began work as a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service where he worked until retiring in 1990. He also had a business, and hobby, of crafting custom gun stocks, the business was called Treloar Custom Craft Gun Stocks. In 1954 he received his Bachelor of Science degree from Upper Iowa University.

Howard was a member of Waterloo Masonic Lodge #105 A.F. & A.M., Masonic Scottish Rite, El Mecca Shrine Club, El Kahir Shrine and the Vintage Auto Group, a life member of Cedar Falls Gun Club, and Waterloo AMVETS.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 69 years Mary Ellen; son Richard (Rhonda) Treloar of Elk Run Heights; granddaughter Lori Treloar of Waterloo; grandson Landon (Larissa) Treloar of Waverly; great grandson Brady; sister-in-law Lugene Treloar of Sumner; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert, and sister LaVisa (Lloyd) Klotz.
