August 18, 1931 - March 8, 2016

Charles John Kline, 84, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Bickford Cottage in Cedar Falls. He was born August 18, 1931 in Sheffield, Iowa, the son of Lewis and Gertrude (Furness) Kline. Charles married Dorothy Entner on December 17, 1951 in Kingsman, Arizona. She preceded him in death on June 30, 2015.

Charles was a graduate of Hampton High School and Hawkeye Community College. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Wadleigh (DD689) as a gunner’s mate, first class. Charles worked in construction and for Northwestern Portland Cement Company in Mason City before moving to Cedar Falls, where he worked for John Deere for 27 years, retiring on December 15, 1993. He was a member of Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49, where he served as local, state and district commander. Charles was also a member of the Mason City VFW Post 733, Cedar Falls American Legion Post 237, Cedar Falls Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Snow Hawks Snowmobile Club, and the Tin Can Sailors Club.

He is survived by his daughter, Diane Kline, and his son, John (Becky) Kline, both of Cedar Falls; three grandchildren, Benjamin, Jacob and Trevor Kline, and a step sister, Bonnie (Mike) Fielding, of Hampton, Iowa.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife and parents; a daughter, Linda Kline; two brothers, Gordon Kline and Robert Kline, who died in infancy; a sister, Maryanne Heeren; a step brother, Bob Ahrens, and a step sister, Barbara Bagby.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2016, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial at Hillside Cemetery in Sheffield. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be 5—7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 10, and one hour before service, at the funeral home.
