Douglas Leroy Burdick was born March 22, 1942, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Chickering Wysong and Erma Dorothy (Grover) Burdick. He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1964 – 1973 earning numerous medals and commendations. While in the Marine Corp, Doug met a fellow marine, Carolyn June Vachet. The couple were united in marriage following honorable discharges from the Marines. Doug and Carolyn moved back to Waterloo where they spent their married life together. Doug worked for the University of Northern Iowa as a boiler operator. In his free time he enjoyed computers, reading and television.

Doug passed away on Friday, February 19, 2016, at Covenant Medical Center at the age of 73 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Doug is survived by his wife, Carolyn; son, Don (Carrie) Burdick of North English; daughter, Kelly Burdick of Cedar Falls; brother, Martin Burdick of Waterloo; and by two grandchildren, Keegan and Davis Burdick.
