William L. "Bill" Wieser
Died: Feb. 11, 2016Biography--
William L. “Bill” Wieser, 99, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at Lakeview Landing of Friendship Village on Thursday, February 11, 2016. He was born on February 5, 1917 in Jesup, the son of William and Rose (Gosse) Wieser. He married Dorothy L. Cooper April 10, 1943 in Waterloo. She preceded him in death on May 12, 2013.
Bill graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1937. He attended Metropolitan College in Dallas, TX until he was drafted into the Army in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army with the Red Bull Division during World War II.
Bill worked for Takin Brothers Freight Line in cost accounting for 15 years before going to Titus Manufacturing for 20 years, retiring as traffic manager in 1982.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he served as an usher and was a member of Designers Sunday School Class. He was a member of Waterloo Transportation Club, the Waterloo Historical Society, and American Legion Post 138. Bill was a big hearted man. He was very close to Dorothy. Together they were world travelers. They also spent winters for many years in Texas. Bill was a championship horseshoer. He also enjoyed bowling in leagues.
Bill is survived by a son James Wieser and his wife Kimberly of Burnsville, Minnesota; 2 grandchildren, Eric Forsythe of Minneapolis and Melissa Bryan of Campton, Kentucky; a great-granddaughter, Jasmine Forsythe; and a sister, Alice Brandhorst of San Rafael, California.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant daughter, sisters: Betty Jane Wenslaff, Rose Maynard, Florence Simontacchi, Evelyn Martin, and Marie Janes; and brothers: Henry, Walter, LaVerne, and Leo Wieser.
