Dean Alan Toepfer, 65, of Waterloo, died at UnityPoint Health ‑ Allen Hospital, on Monday, January 18, 2016.
Dean was born on January 20, 1950 in Peoria, IL, son of William Conrad and Lillian Mae (Rothmeier) Toepfer.
He married Judith Ann "Judy" Taylor in Waterloo on November 6, 1971.
Dean worked for John Deere as a machinist for 34 years before retiring Sept. 30, 2007. He liked yard work, woodworking, including refinishing furniture, street rods, working on cars, working out, and he remodeled three homes, one of which was on the Historical Tour of Homes. He enjoyed his grandkids and their many activities.
Dean was able to donate his corneas to the Iowa Lions Eye Bank.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters: Stephanie (Brad) Fobian and Melissa Wright, both of Waterloo; one sister, Arletta Lantz of Britt, IA; six grandchildren: Elliot, Isaiah, Cody (Morgan), Tannis, Soleil, and Macy; three step-grandchildren: Tryston, Brady, and Kylie; niece and nephew Jessica and Alex, whom Dean and Judy raised; and many other nieces and nephews.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Christopher Michael Toepfer; and one sister, Cheryl Kittsmiller.
