Betty A. Brustkern, 77, of La Porte City, died Monday, December 28, at Iowa Methodist Hospital, Des Moines, after a lengthy illness.

She was born January 23, 1938, in Black Hawk County, the daughter of Carl and Agatha Holbach Demuth. She married Garald Brustkern on June 20, 1959, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo.

Betty graduated from Sacred Heart High School and attended Mt. Mercy College. She was employed at John Deere until retiring in 1998. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilbertville.

Survivors include her husband, Garald of La Porte City; three children; Kim (Mark) Rottinghaus of Waterloo, Kent (Joan) of La Porte City, and Konnie (Paul) Haywood of Waterloo; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a sister, Barb (LeRoy) Sadler of Jewell; a brother, Chuck (Rose) Demuth of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by her parents; and by her step-father, Robert Casey.

Memorial Service will be Monday, January 4, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with inurnment in St. Mary Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Public visitation Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street where there will be a rosary. Visitation also one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
