Biography--

George A. Peirce, 83, of Waterloo, died Monday, December 14, at home.

He was born December 12, 1932, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, son of Kenneth and Kathryn Gutermuth Peirce. He married Collene Bingaman on July 25, 1959 in Waterloo.

George was an industrial engineer with John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 29 years until retirement. Following retirement he managed the El Mecca Shrine Club. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Army. He was Past Master of Waterloo Lodge #105, Past Potentate of El Kahir Shrine Temple. He was Past President of the El Mecca Firehouse Gang, was a 33rd degree member of Scottish Rite, a member of the Royal Order of Jesters and a member of First Congregational Church.

Survivors include his wife; five daughters: Christina (Roger) Winters of Waukon, Cynthia (Wayne) Posegate of Loveland, Colorado, Cathy (Joe) Schuler and Connie (Scott Carnes) Peirce, both of Waterloo and Cheryl (Tom) Shie of Great Falls, Montana; eleven grandchildren: Matthew (Cassie), Jeremy (Emily) and Josh (Cassie Gihring) Winters, Katie Joe (Luke) Whitesell, Michael (Tana Marquart) Schuler, Drew and Holly Posegate, Jake and Sami Shie and Courtney and Tyler Carnes; four great grandchildren: Rachelle, Maddie and Owen Whitesell and Audrey Winters; and two sisters, Donna Jeanne Sheridan of Cedar Falls and Betsy Harmon of Algona.

He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Martine Winters; and two brothers-in-law, Robert Sheridan and Charles Harmon.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Congregational Church with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Evansdale Amvets Post 31, Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a public masonic service at 7 p.m., and at the church for one hour before services on Saturday.

Memorials may be directed to the church or the El Kahir Transportation Fund.
