Services:
Mass of Christian burial: will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

Visitation:
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday, December 14, 2015 at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel; and also one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.

Cemetery:
Entombment in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery Mausoleum, Waterloo with Military Rites conducted by the Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post 714 and the Iowa Army National Guard Honor Detail.

Biography--

George William Bengston, Jr., 92, of Waterloo, died Friday, December 11, 2015 at Ravenwood Specialty Care following a brief illness.

He was born May 9, 1923 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of George W. and Hazel (Peverill) Bengston, Sr. He attended Waterloo West High School. He married Beverly Close on January 5, 1948 in Waterloo, she preceded him in death on April 10, 2001. He married Royal “Maxine” Freeland on June 25, 2005, in Waterloo.

He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1940-1941 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943-1946 during World War II. He worked at Chamberlain Manufacturing for 12 years and worked in the Stock Room at Viking Pump for 8 years, retiring in 1986.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post 714 and attended St. Paul Presbyterian Church in Washburn. He enjoyed bowling and his Maple Lanes bowling family.

Survived by: his wife, Royal “Maxine” Bengston of Waterloo; two sons, William “Bill” (Cynthia) Bengston of Waterloo, Ronald (Linda) Bengston of Waterloo; one daughter, Karen (Robert) Demuth of Gilbertville; two step sons, Darrell (Tery) Freeland of California, Gerald (Linda) Freeland of Alabama; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; one brother, Andrew Bengston of Fairbank and one sister, Corrine Swanson of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: his parents; his first wife, Beverly; one son, Gerald Bengston; one grandson, Michael Bengston; a great-granddaughter, Jersey Lutgen; three sisters: Arlene Green, Margaret Corwin and her twin sister, Alice Elliott.
