Mary Roseberry - Greene

A Funeral Mass for Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Roseberry, 99, of Greene, will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greene with Rev. Msgr. Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Greene, with visitation one hour before the service at the church.

Mary was born on September 15, 1915, in Cherokee, Iowa and entered into eternal rest on September 6, 2015, at the Valley View Center in Greene. She was raised on a farm in rural Cedar Falls, Iowa, by five maiden sisters, whom she lovingly referred to as the “Aunties”. She joined four boys the Aunties were also raising and they became her brothers.

She graduated from Fort Dodge Sacred Heart High School in 1933. Mary had a beautiful soprano voice and participated in many musicals at school.

Mary married Percy K. Roseberry on March 31, 1937, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Waterloo, Iowa. Seven children were born to this union. After the youngest child went to school Mary worked as a cook at Columbus High School in Waterloo, Iowa. In 1966, she and Percy moved to Beaverton, Oregon where she worked as a seamstress at Pendleton Woolen Mills and Tektronics from which she retired in 1980. In 1997, Mary and Percy moved to Greene, Iowa.

Mary was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She sewed many beautiful clothes for her children and friends. The greatest gift she left to her children was the gift of the faith which the Aunties passed on to her. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, St. Lucy’s Circle, and The Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Surviving family members include four children: Robert Roseberry, Marion, Montana; Marian (Richard) Jacobs, Greene, Iowa; Alice (Ken) Reimer, Elkader, Iowa; James (Sharon) Roseberry, Wichita, Kansas; one son–in-law, Tom Myrsiades, Alta Vista, Iowa; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
