Gerald Wayne Culver, 78, died suddenly at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, from a cardiac event caused by cancer.

He was born September 4, 1937, in Craig County, Okla., and graduated from Fairland High School in 1955. He married Cora Mae Rooney on June 13, 1958, in Commerce, Okla. Gerald attended Northeast Oklahoma A&M College, studying engineering. He retired from Waterloo Industries after over 40 years of service.

He was a long-standing member of Prairie Lakes Church, Cedar Falls, serving as a deacon, a trustee and participating in mission work worldwide.

Gerald lived a long and full life. He was an avid outdoorsman and an advocate for the environment. To his family and those whose lives he touched, he leaves a legacy of simple virtues. The codes he taught were the codes he lived by. Gerald spoke the truth, he kept his promises, and he lived with a quiet strength, a healthy sense of humor and respect for God. Through these many gifts, his spirit and love live on.

Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Lela Culver; and a brother, Leon Culver.

He is survived by his wife, Cora Culver of NorthCrest Specialty Care, Waterloo; his children, Krista Culver of Waterloo, Jerry (LouAnn) Culver of Waterloo, Andrew (Ann) Pham family of Chicago and Tony (Ruth) Kiako family of Des Moines; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers Cecil Culver of Houston, Harold (Barbara) Culver of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., and Dale (Shirley) Culver of Miami, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Monday, November 16 at Prairie Lakes Church, Cedar Falls. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, is assisting the family.

Memorials may be directed to the church or House of Hope in Waterloo.
