George W. Lindsey, 91, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Nov. 21, at Friendship Village Retirement Center, of natural causes.
He was born July 1, 1924, in Freeport, Illinois, son of George W. and Garnet Cook Lindsey. He married Jeanne M. Harding on October 8, 1949, in Iowa City, and she died July 18, 2010.
George graduated from high school in Freeport in 1942, attended Dunwoody College of Technology, Minneapolis, for two years and worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a finance clerk, retiring in 1984. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a lifetime member of the Golden State AMVETS Post 56 in San Francisco.
Survived by three sisters: Sally (Glen) Hansen and Barbara Auringer, both of Waterloo, and Betty Meeker of Byron, Ill.; two brothers-in-law, Eugene Lightfield of Pinellas Park, Fla., and Bill Zickhur of Aurora Grande, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and five sisters.
