Chester Melvin Remmen

January 25, 1924 - November 27, 2015

Chester Melvin Remmen, 91, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, November 27, 2015, at NewAldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls. He was born January 25, 1924 in Wegdahl, Minnesota, the son of John and Laura (Nicolai) Remmen. Chet served with the U.S. Army in Japan at the end of World War II.

He married Shirley Maier on December 31, 1948 in Webster, South Dakota. Chet worked for Northern States Power from 1947-1955 and then Cedar Falls Utilities from 1955 until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and Cedar Falls American Legion Post 237.

Chet is survived by his wife, Shirley Remmen, of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Linda Ferguson of Iowa City, Iowa and Janet Cady of Eagan, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Amy (Reid) Carrick of Madison, Wisconsin and Matthew Cady of Eagan, Minnesota; a great granddaughter, Harper Carrick, of Madison, Wisconsin, and his former son-in-law, Thomas Ferguson, of Chicago, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Howard & Clifford Remmen, and his son-in-law, Craig Cady.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, with burial at a later date at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday until service time at the church. A memorial fund will be established. Condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
