April 17, 1933 - December 20, 2014

Raleigh R. Magee, 81, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, December 20, 2014, at the Western Home Elizabeth Martin Health Center in Cedar Falls.

He was born April 17, 1933 in rural Dunkerton, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Lois (Fressle) Magee. Raleigh graduated from Dunkerton High School and served as Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) and earned a masters degree from Michigan State University.

Raleigh married Eleanor L. Stender on June 5, 1955. She preceded him in death on April 21, 1991. He married Greta F. Gabrielson on July 18, 1992 in Dubuque, Iowa. After teaching drivers education in Cedar Rapids and Industrial arts in Denver, he farmed outside Dunkerton, and was a hearing officer and a traffic safety educator with the IDOT for twenty-one years. After retiring in 1996, Raleigh delivered motor homes for Morgan Driveaway.

He is survived by his wife, Greta F. Magee, of Cedar Falls; two sons, Dr. Michael (Sherry) Magee of Leawood, Kansas and Dennis (Julie) Magee of Dunkerton; two daughters, Julie (Rob) Heiple of Dunkerton and Rebecca (Robert) Mahoney of Harlan, Iowa; two step daughters, Gretchen (Joseph) Paricka of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Ingrid (Andrew) Giere of Spirit Lake, Iowa; seventeen grandchildren, Christopher, Cory and Cole Heiple, Maxwell, Benjamin and Gavin Magee, August, Charles, and Eleanor Magee, Devin, Niall and Quinn Mahoney, Hayden and Elsie Paricka, Rorek, Boden and Reiter Giere; three brothers, David (Sandy) Magee of St. Joseph, Missouri, Tom (Rose) Magee of Clifton, Colorado and Gerald “Jed” (Betty) Magee of Charles City, Iowa; a brother in law, Bob (Sheryl) Meyerhoff and a sister in law, Helene Magee.

Raleigh was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor Magee; an infant sister, Phyllis; parents; two sisters, Martha Meyerhoff and Lucille Stout, and one brother, Jack Magee.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at Orchard Hill Church in Cedar Falls, with burial at Fairview Cemetery in Dunkerton. Military honors will be conducted by Dunkerton American Legion Post 636. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 22, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and one hour prior to service at the church on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Orchard Hill Church or the United Methodist Church in Dunkerton. Condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
